I'm rebuilding my personal laptop - which is my main machine for development while away from work and personal things personal.  I thought it would be nice to have a list of everything I put on a fresh machine.  This is the base - depending on the purpose, I go down a different path.

  • If the IDE is crashing frequently when invoking TortoiseSVN during Update, Commit, etc.  - do the following.  There seems to be some issues with Office 2007 unreg'ing a certain dll (discussed here and here).
    
    Start -> Run -> regsvr32 C:\windows\system32\actxprxy.dll -> ENTER
